We are bound by society's standards, whether it's professional or personal accolades, it's inevitable.

We grind hard to reach professional accolades with the fear of missing out on accomplishments, fancy positions, and prestige to a point where we reach burnout.

We lose interest and motivation to perform tasks we used to love, and we don't find any meaning in what we do, leading to boreout.

How do you combat burnout or boreout before it swallows your entire being?

  • Stop and step back. When you reach an autopilot mode where you work like a machine or a malfunctioning mode where you're taking a break every few minutes because you can't concentrate and lack motivation, it's good to stop and step back.

  • Assess. What is your satisfaction level in different areas of your life? What's most important to you?

  • Change. Things will not change unless you change something.

  • Burnout? Establish boundaries and learn to say "No". We all have 24 hours a day allotted to work, rest, sleep, and other areas in our personal life.

  • Boreout? Go down memory lane to your childhood and remember the activities you used to love as a kid, maybe it's time to rekindle those activities. Try different activities or hobbies, maybe you will find back your inspiration and motivation from doing those activities.

  • One step at a time. Taking big steps will not result in what you're expecting but will only add stress and pressure to your current situation. Be gentle with yourself. Small changes when performed regularly sum up to results.

  • Consistency and discipline. No matter how small the gesture is, as long as you apply consistency and discipline, the magnitude will amplify into a satisfactory result over time.

  • Seek help or support. No one should feel alone. Reach out to a trusted person . If the signs are severe, reach out to a professional.

Personal transformation is a constant work in progress. The most important thing is recognizing ineffective patterns and possessing the determination to make transformative changes.
